There are three main ways you can manipulate the results of Google Desktop Search:
- By using double quotes.
- Specifying the file type.
- Specifying the folder you wish to search under.
Using Double Quotes
- "phrase" - if you put your search phrase in double quotation marks then Google Desktop will return only exact matches.
Specifying the file type
- filetype: - this will let you specify the filetype of the of the results returned. For example, if you enter 'Peter filetype:doc', it will return only Microsoft Word files that contain the word Peter in them.
Specify the search folder
- under: - lets you specify the folders in which Google Desktop will search for example we could search just for documents under "c:\word\".
